Mari Okada 岡田 まり
Date of Birth: 1976 Birthplace: Osaka, Japan Mari Okada studied film production at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Her graduating work The Correct Use of Oranges was selected for screening at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in the Fantastic Off-Theater Competition. In 2011, she created Birthday311 for "3.11 Tomorrow," an omnibus project of short films featuring works centered on the theme of the 2011 Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, screened at the Sendai Short Film Festival. She followed up in 2013 with Tokyo Halloween Night through Momomatsuri, a collective which produces and screens works by female directors. Tokyo Halloween Night has gone on to be screened at numerous other festivals including the New Orleans Film Festival and the Hawaii International Film Festival, where its satirical and allegorical bent has made it an audience favorite.
